Dental Hygiene

Dental hygiene, also known as oral hygiene, is the process by which preventative dental care is provided to avoid dental emergencies. At the core of dental hygiene is the in-home dental care regime you perform. Your at-home regime is supplemented with professional preventative dental care provided by dentists and dental hygienists.

While you are responsible for day-to-day dental maintenance, dental hygienists, along with the dentists, play an integral role in preventative oral care.

Tooth brushing is fundamentally important, though it alone will not remove the calculus (also called tartar or dental plaque) that builds up over time. Calculus must be removed to lower your risk of toothaches, cavities, periodontal disease or even the loss of all your teeth. By removing calculus, you can reduce your chances of needing root canals, tooth extractions, dental bridges, crowns and more.

Brushing

Use small circular movements with the brush held at 45 degrees to the tooth. Move systematically around the mouth. Remember to clean the inside surfaces and the biting surfaces. Dont forget behind the top and bottom teeth. A good technique will take 2 minutes.

Flossing

Debris accumulates between the teeth. If not removed, bacteria will develop and plaque will form. Use the floss with a back and forth motion and with a vertical action until all the plaque is removed. Work the floss gently under the gum.

Interdental Brushes

Interdental brushes are used much in the same way as a bottle brush and remove plaque and food rest from in-between the teeth. These can be used either in conjunction with your flossing or if you have difficulty using floss as an alternative. Mouth Rinse

Plaque build-up can lead to inflamed gums. A mouth rinse can help by removing the plaque and reducing the inflammation.

Tounge Cleansing

85% of bad breath originates in the mouth, most of which comes from the tongue. Stagnating plaque bacteria and food debris can give off an offensive odour. Tongue cleansing removes unwanted bacteria from the tongue's surface and the tongue-coating that cause bad breath .TongueDetox is designed to make tongue cleaning easy and comfortable. Use daily for fresher breath, improved taste and a healthier mouth.
